Setting up a deck

  1. Put a term in column A and its translation in column B, starting from row 1 or row 2 (a header row is fine — rows with an empty column A, or with nothing in either column B or C, are skipped automatically).
  2. Column C is a second back field. When both B and C are filled, the back shows B / C. You can also leave column B empty and use only column C — a row just needs column A plus at least one of B or C.
  3. Each sheet tab is its own independent deck — add as many tabs as you like.

The Flashcards menu

Open Extensions → Hangil Flashcards in any Google Sheet™ to see:

Studying a card

Click a card to flip it. Keyboard shortcuts while reviewing:

KeyAction
SpaceFlip the card
/ Previous / next card
SReshuffle the deck
JJump to this card's row in the sheet

Use Jump to row if you spot a typo — it takes you straight to that cell so you can fix it, then reopen the deck.

Progress and Test mode

While reviewing, flip a card and mark it Got it or Still learning. View Progress shows a breakdown across your whole deck, and Needs Practice lets you restudy just the cards that need it. Test quizzes you with multiple-choice and true/false questions and reports missed cards at the end. Progress tracking is a paid-plan feature.

How a card moves from Needs Practice to Learning to Mastered

Every card starts at Needs Practice until you've answered it at least once. Each time you mark a card Got it or Still Learning, its level is recalculated from your history on that card:

A single Still Learning resets that card's correct-answer streak to zero, so a Mastered card can drop back to Learning or Needs Practice if you miss it later — mastery reflects your recent performance, not just history.

Fonts for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai

Script is detected automatically from the card text and the appropriate font is applied. If a character doesn't render the way you expect, open Font Settings to choose a different font for that script.

Free plan, trial, and subscription

The free plan studies the first 100 rows of each deck. Open Hangil Flashcards → Account to start a 14-day free trial (no payment info required) or subscribe for the full deck plus Needs Practice, Test mode, Progress tracking, and Font Settings.
